A Weekend Off

A Weekend Off

No chemo this week meant no sickness this weekend, and I was not sad about that!

Friday I got to share some time with Craig and enjoy a tea with Margaret and Rob while Lucy and Kalvin played. Kalvin got to meet all the big help girls and spend the day with me. We both love days when we are together.

I had a great session, facilitated by my sweet intern Lili. It was amazing! Seeing as Monday training starts for 6 ladies, and they “practise” on me I know my week will be extra awesome!

Over the weekend Kalvin played with Odin his neighbourhood doodle bestie. It’s so fun to watch them!

Mikey and I had breakfast together after sleeping in and then food prepped some together :) It was nice to be in the kitchen helping! Mikey also made my water bottle extra special, with cute little sayings of strength and love. It looks super cute.

Then Ky and I made dog treats together as we hung out listening to some of his favourite music and caught up. He is busy with his co-op for school, pickleball and hockey and all the things so sometimes we hardly awe each other in passing in the hall.

Kylee mer me after that for a pedicure and Starbucks. I feel bad for estheticians - my feet are so icky although look a little better with each day that passes. Margaret made me some special cream 💗 I’ve been slathering it on at bedtime.

One of my students coming next week gifted Mikey and I tickets to a dueling pianos dinner. It was nice to get out! It was also nice to see such a great cause supported. Brain injuries are so traumatic. If you’re looking volunteer or to make donations, consider the Brain Injury Asdociation of Windsor and Essex County. I was so overwhelmed with her kindness to think of us. We really haven’t got to do much since this cancer journey started, for just a few hours it felt so normal to be out 💗 Danielle, you are so sweet, thank you!

It’s been so nice not feeling sick and like myself but I keep crying because I know it’s not staying for long.

This weekend is for fun and it was filled with lots of goodness. Pancakes for breakfast, family dinner and nothing left to do but show up for training tomorrow,

I trust your weekend was magical and fun and everything weekends are meant for.

These sweet potato and apple dog treats are super easy to make, full of good ingredients for your canine companion and dog-approved!

Servings: 16 to 32 treats

Calories: 104 kcal

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 to 3 large sweet potatoes

  • 1 Gala or Honey Crisp apple grated or pear works too

  • 3+ cups whole wheat flour or rice flour

  • 2 eggs

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

  2. Parchment paper a baking sheet. Cut the potatoes in half and place them, cut side down on the baking sheet. Bake at 400ºF for 40 minutes until the potatoes are very soft. Let the potatoes cool and then peel the skin from the potatoes and discard. Mash the peeled sweet potatoes with a fork and measure out 3 cups. (Reserve any remaining for another use.)

  3. Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F.

  4. Combine the mashed sweet potatoes, shredded apples, whole-wheat flour and eggs in a bowl. Mix the ingredients well until a dough comes together, adding more flour if necessary to make the dough soft but pliable. Divide the dough into quarters and then cut each quarter in half. Roll the dough pieces into thin 16-inch logs. Twist 2 of the logs together and then cut the twisted log into 1- to 4-inch pieces, depending on what size treat you’d like for your pup. Alternately, form the log into any shape you want, hearts, circles, dog bones, your pup’s initials…get creative!

  5. Place the twisted dough shapes on a baking sheet and bake at 375ºF for 45 minutes to an hour , until the treats are set. Transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

  6. Once cooled, feed the treats to your furry friends! Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. We keep them in the vfridge. Kalvin loves them!
