Penelope and the Port
My nurse Jenna was perfect for me, she kept bringing me warmed blankets and calling me sweetie. She didn’t do anything without first explaining to me what she was going to do next. She let me touch a port and reassured me every step of the way. Dr. Rochon was awesome and very gentle. When they transferred me onto the table for the procedure I closed my eyes and began meditating and talking to my body about what was going to happen next. I fell asleep. Before they even gave me the anaesthetic. Before falling asleep, I invited the port to be “a part of me” and as my body responded to me it became clear that the port didn’t want to be called a port at all and wanted a name. Penelope looks like a funky dressed little girl who takes care of the port and works with my body. So I invited her to come be with me as we travel this journey and when the job is done Penelope can peace out. I felt so much peace I fell asleep and woke up as soon as they finished. I have no feelings of an invasion and Penelope is my new friend who stays with me. She is going to take care of this area of my body with me. We have an understanding 💗
After a little nap, some juice and cookies at the hospital I got to leave. I’ve been icing the areas with frozen peas today. Before dinner Kylee was craving some mommy time so we took a ride to Maurice’s. I love hanging out with her!
As bedtime approaches I can feel the bruising but we did good! I was not doing well with even the thoughts of this but once again I’ve proved to myself I can do hard things 💗 Penelope and I will be just fine.
