Artificial Sweetener & Anger
Anger is moving through me today. Who decides that artificial sweetener gets added to things? Like the contrast for a CT scan. Why does this get decided?
Thankfully, I can advocate for myself and read everything before trusting someone to hear me and care about my allergy. And, although I’ve communicated every single freaking time I’ve walked into any doctor or hospital setting the severe allergy to artificial sweeteners, I still get told to buy 2 bottles of poison and drink them. In 2012, I was experiencing symptoms that resembled MS, no feeling in my arms and legs, my muscles wouldn’t allow me to hold even a head of lettuce and it super sucked. It was found to have artificial sweetener poisoning as the chemical attacked my nerves and I was a mess for months. That was my only other health scare aside from this cancer diagnosis.
I’ll be going to the hospital for the drink instead before the test, I’ll also be reading whatever they mix me with my own two eyes because at least I know I’m competent to not poison myself.
Do you know what’s in your food?
Do me a favour, and consider not putting this in your body!
Acesulfame-potassium, polydextrose, sucralose, thaumatin and sugar alcohols (polyols) like sorbitol, isomalt, lactitol, maltitol, mannitol, xylitol, aspartame, acesulfame - K Sweet One, Sunett, Sweet & Safe, Equal, NutraSweet, NatraTaste, Neotame, Saccharin, Sweet’n Low, Sugar Twin, Necta Sweet, Sweet Thing, Stevia, Stevia in the Raw, PureVia, Truvia, Sweet Lead, and Splenda.
The artificial sweetener poisoning helped a lot of people because I didn’t shut up about my experience and clearly it’s a message that still needs sharing.
Check your gum, your mouthwash, your kids’ vitamins, salad dressing, cough syrup, your dog treats…. It’s everywhere. The list is endless and it’s in things you wouldn’t ever expect so, check. Things that are labeled or implied healthy alternatives are absolutely not. And I am mad about it. I felt as much of that anger as I could before falling asleep for a 3 hour nap with Kalvin.
After my nap Mikey and I prepped dinner and I went to see my favourite barista and get a drink. Then more rest and family dinner, followed by cuddles and chill time with my crew.
